day 4

Scooter and me tumbled out of Timber Ridge about 11am.  We had spent the morning getting the Wilson B&B ready for the big 4th of July get together. Scott had cooked country ham and biscuits that I didn't need after the fried food feast last night at the Mountain Top.
It was a beautiful day for riding a scooter through the mountains.  We were off and on the Blue Ridge Parkway most of the day.  It was cool and sunny with all the summer the smells of the hills, honeysuckle, cut grass and hay, sweet smells of the forest and the occasional road kill. A red scooter did not draw much attention in the hills on a weekend of dozens and dozens of Harley's running around.
I went from blue grass band to blue grass band enjoying it all.  Lunch was in Floyd, Va. to the accompaniment of a local jam session.
I have noticed a few things traveling slowly.  In Florida, anything they build a bridge over is called a "river", even if it is a garden hose. The rest of the states seem to have a criteria of some type labeling them "creeks", "streams", or "rivers".  In Georgia on almost all the roads, including the little back roads, there are mileage markers from county line to county line.  Not sure what value this is unless the county is so bad you want to know how long it will take to escape it.
We rolled into the Wilson B&B at Smith Mountain Lake about 4pm.  I walked down the drive and when I came back they, had put out the welcome sign for me. A nice evening setting on the lake watching the sun set.
